HOW TO GROW VENUS FLY TRAP FROM SEED

The Venus Fly Trap is a fascinating plant that captures and digests insects, whilst displaying its beautiful traps.

Venus Fly Trap enjoys moderate to full-sun and wet, humid conditions. Venus Fly Traps should not be fertilized as this will kill the plant, and Venus fly traps are sensitive to chemicals and heavy mineral contents, so using distilled or bottled water is best. Venus Fly Traps can be fed insects or left to catch insects on their own. The Venus Fly Trap go dormant during winter and start growing again in the coming spring.

Seeding method:

Seeds can be directly spread on the damp substrate (unfertilized peat moss or spaghnam moss), using soil with nutrients will kill the Venus fly traps. There is no need to cover the seeds as they need light to germinate, although a fine dusting of peat moss may help keep the seeds from drying out. Keep high humidity and bright light, germination optimum temperature is 15 to 30 degrees, germination can occur any time from 1 week to a month depending on conditions. Will mature into a flowering plant anywhere from 2-4 years depending on growing conditions

Growing points:

Venus fly trap is sensitive to water quality. Use low mineral content of water, such as rain, pure water, etc. Keep good ventilation to prevent Mold/algae growth, and keep the roots cool during summer to prevent overheating of the plant. You should not fertilize Venus fly traps with conventional fertilizer, as it gains nutriment from the insects it catches.
