Alyssum Rosie O'day Seeds .
HOW TO GROW ALYSSUM :
Step 1
Can be sown directly into ground or small pots. Sow in early Spring in most climates to get the most out of your blooms. Sow indoors mid winter for planting out after last frosts of winter have passed. Surface sow seeds onto a well draining soil and cover lightly with another 1 mm of soil; Alyssum seeds need some light to germinate. Water gently with a light misting hose to avoid disturbing the seeds and place into a warm, sunny position. Shaded from the afternoon sun in hotter climates.Step 2
Keep moist during the entire germination process. Ideal temperature for germination is 14-23°C/60-75°F Seeds should germinate in good conditions within 2 weeks.Step 3
If in pots, seedlings can be gently transplanted once they large enough to handle easily. Space seedlings roughly 8-10 cm apart. Alyssum is reasonably heat and drought tolerant but is quite frost tender. It is grown as an annual, however may grow as a perennial in temperate climates. Alyssum takes approximately 8 weeks to flower.
Height: Approximately 12cm (5 inches)
Width: up to 25cm (1 foot)
Alyssum is not only commonly grown for its gorgeous flowers but also for the sweet fragrance they have. It is beautiful as a ground cover, in rockeries or as a border or feature plant.
Alyssum is native to the Mediterranean region, Canary Islands, the Isle of Biscay in France, Azores and Macaronesia.
It can grow quite happily on sand dunes which is the reason it has 'maritima' in it's name!
If planted early this species can bloom in the right location from Spring all the way through until the first frosts of winter arrive.
