Black Wattle Tree Seeds .

HOW TO GROW BLACK WATTLE :

Step 1
Place the seeds intended to sow into a cup and pour boiling water over them and then leave for about an hour. If the seeds float then discard them, they won’t grow. If the seeds that have sunk have expanded, they are ready. Otherwise, repeat the boiling water and leave them to soak. Seeds that have expanded will germinate four times quicker.

Step 2
Sow each seed about 3mm into small pots or punnets of basic garden soil. Moisten and then move into part sun position. Seeds should germinate after 1-2 weeks.

Step 3
Transplant immediately after the first leaves have grown, into a larger pot or directly into ground. Keep moist and they will grow quickly. Once established, they will survive some cold and won’t require much watering. Black Wattles should only take 2-4 years to reach maturity.

Height: up to 10 metres (30 feet)

The Black Wattle is a fast-growing Australian native, named after an American by a Belgian naturalist.

The Black Wattle has been introduced worldwide due to its ability to combat erosion, improve degraded soil and to regenerate forests quickly.

Mining companies use Black Wattles across the globe when closing mines to fasten the local areas recovery.

Black Wattles are an excellent source of firewood and tannin.
