HOW TO GROW EMPRESS TREES :
Step 1
Prepare seed tray or small pots with a seed raising soil mix, moisten the soil and pat it down gently. Paulownia seeds need light to activate germination, so lay the seeds directly onto the top of the soil - try to spread them out a little as the germination rates for Paulownia are generally quite high, this will help when separating them later. Cover pots/tray with some glass, clear plastic or plastic wrap to assist in maintaining humidity and moisture which is necessary for germination. Leave in warm, bright location (not hot full sun) as it is important they get the sufficient light requirements (approx 150 hours for germination), but not intense summer sun! Ideal temperature for germination is 18-20°C/66-70°F. Artificial light can be provided if necessary in your location!Step 2
After a couple of days water vapor will start to condense inside your pot/tray - this indicates 100% humidity and is a good sign for these surface sown seeds. The warmer, brighter the location the faster the seeds will germinate. Keep an eye on them and be sure the medium is not drying out as this may kill them. Keep moist (but NOT wet) at all times. Seeds should start to germinate after 9-21 days.Step 3
About a week after germination has begun start to slowly remove the plastic wrap/glass starting with a small opening and every couple of days remove a little more until the cover is removed completely - this will help the seedlings adapt to life outside. Seedlings can be transplanted gently once they have at least two true leaves. In good conditions the seedlings will develop rapidly. These plants are fast growing but will need to be kept in a pot and protected from cold winters until their second year.Step 4
Transplant to final position after last frost. Once established, will survive some cold and will not require much watering. Additional water advised during flowering. Empress Trees will take around 18 months to fully mature.
