Nasturtium Empress Of India Seeds Organic .

More commonly known as Nasturtiums, an edible variety of flower that comes a in a wide range of colours. These beautiful annuals are popular in both the garden and the kitchen for the beauty and taste. All parts of the plant are edible with a peppery flavour but it’s their flowers that are most sought after for their colour contrast. This variety, the Empress of India produces deep red, semi-double flowers to contrast with their purple-green leaves. Though an annual, Nasturtiums re-seed every year to ensure your dinner plate and garden beds both look delicious during spring.

Height: up to 50cm  (1-2 foot)

Width: up to 30 cm (1 foot)

Nasturtiums are native to Peru though have been grown widely across the world.
Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus named the genus in reference to an ancient Roman custom after winning battles in war. The leaves reminded Linnaeus of the shields and its flowers of the blood-stained helmets. Tropaeolum was derived from the Greek word tropaion, which in English means trophy.
Nasturtiums also have the added bonus of being a great garden companion for other plants. They repel some common pests while also attracting some predators that feed on other destructive eaters.
