HOW TO GROW LEMON BALM :
Step 1
Prepare pots or tray with a well draining seed raising mix. If planting into the garden do this in Spring-Summer in a full sun position. Surface sow the seeds and cover with only a very light sprinkle of soil or vermiculite as Lemon Balm needs some light to germinate. Space seeds in the garden 30 cm apart.Step 2
Moisten with a spray bottle or misting hose to avoid disturbing the seeds and keep moist for the entire germination period. Ideal germination temperature is 20°C/70°F Germination should take 2-3 weeks.Step 3
Seedlings in pots can be transplanted once they have 2 true leaves. again spacing in the garden should be approximately 30 cm (1 foot). Lemon Balm can be kept in pots/containers.Step 4
Final position should be in full sun and watered regularly. Lemon Balm takes 4-6 weeks to reach maturity.

Width: 30-35 cm (1 foot)
Lemon Balm or Melissa is well known for several reasons. The main ones being it's use as a culinary herb/flavouring, for it's medicinal uses and of course as one of the more expensive essential oils used in aromatherapy.
The name 'Melissa' in Greek means 'honeybee', the species gained this name due to it's attractiveness to bees.
Lemon Balm has been used as a tea for centuries and gained the nickname 'the elixir of life'. There are many uses for Lemon Balm in traditional medicine. It is considered a calming herb.
