Japanese Red Leaf Maple Seeds

 

HOW TO GROW JAPANESE MAPLES :


Step 1

Place the seeds into a container and pour pre boiled water that is cooled enough to touch over them and leave for 24 hours.  Drain the water and put the seeds into a plastic zip-lock bag along with a mixture of moist garden soil.  Seal the bag, date it, and put the bag into the refrigerator.

 

Step 2

After 3 months, plant the seeds into small pots of well draining soil and cover with roughly 1cm of soil.  Water thoroughly, but allow the soil to dry completely before watering again.  Keep in a warm, sunny location.  Germination should take around 4 weeks.

 

Step 3

Once sprouted, move pot to part sunny position.  Gradually, increase sun as seedling grows.  Use the small/medium pot until after first winter.

 

Step 4

Transplant to final position after first winter.  Once established, will manage in winter if well mulched. J apanese Maples takes between 5-7 years to fully mature.
