Lady Palm Tree Seeds .
HOW TO GROW PURPLE ORCHID TREES :
NOTE: Even when established, these Palms will not survive temperatures below 0°C / 33°F for extended periods.
Step 1
Soak each seed for around six hours or overnight in clean water prior to sowing. This will soften the outer shell and will help with germination.
Step 2
Fill a small pot for every 2-3 seeds with well-draining soil. Push each seed gently onto the surface and lightly cover, ensuring the seeds can still receive some sunlight. Moisten and then move into a bright position but not in direct sunlight. If given the right temperatures of 20-30°C /68-86°F seeds should germinate in around 4-6 weeks. Cover with a light plastic such as Glad Wrap if temperatures fall below 10°C/50°F overnight – this is not ideal temperatures and can significantly delay germination.
Step 3
When commercially grown, usually 2-3 seeds are sown per pot and only the strongest seedling is kept. The weaker seedlings can still be placed into other pots but do so early while they are small, so that transplanting does not disturb the other seedlings.
Step 4
In warmer climates, Lady Palms can be grown outdoors, even transplanted into the ground. Leaf colour is dependent on sunlight and will grow darker if shadier locations. In cooler climates keep Lady Palms in pots so that they can be protected indoors during cooler months. Wait until the plant becomes root bound before transplanting into a larger pot.
Step 5
Transplant to final position is best done during Winter or early Spring. Lady Palms can take between 7-8 years to reach maturity.
