Yes, you can grow your own Liquorice at home! While it takes 2-3 years for the roots to grow large enought to harvest, it is worth the wait. The plant itself is quite a nice shrubby plant that grows to an average of 1 metre - but in good conditions it has been known to grow a bit bigger. It also has a quite pretty purple flower.

Liquorice Root is up to 50 times sweeter than sugar, although the taste is very different than sugar.
Liqurice root is not only used for flavouring, it has also been used for centuries for many medicinal purposes and still is today. It is also used to flavour tobacco - in fact  a massive portion of cultivated Liquorice goes towards tobacco flavouring!
You can eat too much Liquorice! Although Liquorice has many health and medicinal benefits, it is possible to consume to much and cause unwanted side effect & toxicity.
