Ponytail Palm Tree Seeds .
HOW TO GROW PONYTAIL PALM :
NOTE: Ponytail Palms are not actually palms but are a type of succulent.
Step 1
Ponytail Palm seeds can be sown throughout the year but to achieve the best germination rates the soil should be kept at a temperature of between 15 and 20°C (59 and 68°F). During colder seasons, it is better to start the seeds in containers and keep them indoors. To start with, soak the Ponytail Palm seeds in lukewarm water overnight or for at least six hours.Step 2
Prepare a small container for every 2-3 seeds and fill it with succulent mix. If unable to acquire a succulent mix use a medium that is part sand, part soil. This ensures plenty of drainage. Sow the seeds directly onto the surface of the soil, moisten and cover lightly. During cooler temperatures it may be worth covering the pot with plastic to keep the soil warmer. Throughout the germination period temperatures of at least 15°C/59°F are required. So if it's winter, keep them indoors or in a greenhouse. If your temperatures are much cooler than this; you may need a heat mat to achieve germination or wait until spring or summer. Seeds should germinate in around 14-28 days.Step 3
If the plant is staying indoors remove the any weaker seedlings and keep the strongest. Watering is only required weekly during the growing season and once a month during the winter. If transplanting outdoors, wait until all chance of frost has gone as temperatures that low will surely kill young seedlings. It is better to give a young seedling a full year of growing in a container prior to planting out. When transplanting, choose a sunny location and prepare the soil by digging a hole about 50cm (2 feet) deep and 30cm (1 foot) wide.Refill the hole by mixing a portion of sand through the dugout soil. Take care when moving the seedling as any damage to the roots can prove fatal. Water the seedling in and then water a little once a week. During winter, don't water if there is any rain. Otherwise reduce to once a month.Step 4
If the plan is to grow a large plant, repot once per year.
If the plan is to keep a smaller plant, repot once every 2-3 years.Once established, plants will survive temperatures down to 5°C/41°F.
Ponytail Palms will only fully mature and bloom if grown outdoors which takes between 8-10 years.
