Silver Birch Seeds .
HOW TO GROW SILVER BIRCH :
Step 1
Soak the seeds in room temperature water for 24 hours, then drain. Place the seeds into a plastic zip-lock with a mix of moistened (NOT WET) garden soil and sand - enough to keep the seeds separated. Write the date and place bag into the fridge for 6 weeks. Check weekly to be sure the medium is not drying out – this will make the pre-treatment ineffective, so re-moisten if necessary.Step 2
After 6 weeks, sow each seed on the surface of a seed tray or small pot of potting mix and cover with approx. 2mm of vermiculite or a fine layer of sieved potting compost. Moisten and keep at room temperature. Keep out of full sun until at least the first true leaves have grown Seeds should germinate after 4-6 weeks.Step 3
Move seedlings into part shade position. Transplant to larger pot at 30cm height, birch’s have been should grow around 20-50 cm’s in their first yearStep 4
The final resting position should be in full sun or partial shade. Silver Birch’s can take between 5-10 years to fully mature.

The Silver birch is Finland's national tree.
Silver birch is reputed to be useful in the treatment of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, gout, kidney stones, and respiratory diseases. For these purposes, a decoction of the bark or leaves is generally used.
