Growth
form An erect shrub, 0.3-1.5m high. There are separate male and female plants.
Leaves
The leaves are oval to spear shaped, 5-20mm long and bluish-grey green.
Flowers
The flowers on the male plants are 2mm in diameter and form small spikes on the end of branches. The female plant produces short spikes of flowers along the stem. Flowers Mar-May.
Fruits
The fruits are seed cases, 8mm long and 12mm long, often withtwo horn like structures. Each seed case contains 1 seed.
Bark
Grey brown on the oldest stems.
