Southern Cross Flower (Xanthosia rotundifolia) 20 Seeds
Xanthosia rotundifolia is a species of the plant family Mackinlayaceae, but sometimes also placed in Araliaceae or Apiaceae. The informal name of this species, Southern Cross, is derived from the common name of the constellation Crux.
Only when the flowers are fully open and mature can you be guaranteed to see the obvious cross shape which gives this plant its common name. The flowers are white or cream but the reproductive parts can go quite orange in the later stages of flowering. It is found on the south coast of Australia quite abundantly around the Albany region but apart from an isolated pocket east of Perth there is none to be found in Western Australia north of a latitude going through Margaret River.
