Succulent & Cacti Soil

My Seeds Succulent & Cacti Potting Mix

  • Boosted calcium encourages larger flowers and bolder colours, as well as improving resistance to root rots and other diseases

  • Includes added coarse material that allows excess water to flow straight through and away from roots

  • Wetting agent assists moisture to soak into the mix and helps roots take up nutrients

A premium quality mix formulated as a free-draining mix that will meet the quite specific physical and nutritional needs of cacti and succulents.

Use for potting up all types of cacti and succulents or adding to garden soil when planting out. Not suitable for phosphorus-sensitive Australian native plants or South African members of the Protea family.

HOW TO USE

In pots:

Use My Seeds Cacti & Succulent Mix straight from the bag when potting or repotting cacti and succulents - don't mix it with other materials. Close the bag tightly after use
Choose a clean pot* with large drainage holes and fill one-third of it with drainage material like coarse washed river sand or gravel
Cover with a layer of mix
Place the plant in the pot, adding more of the mix around the root ball (use kitchen tongs to handle prickly plants)
Add more mix to about 2cm below the rim of the pot
Tap the pot or container gently on the bench to help the new mix settle in and around the roots. Firm lightly
Top dress the top with coarse washed river sand or gravel to prevent 'caking' of the surface of the potting mix and to ensure that the area close to the base of plant remains dry
Allow to settle for 2-3 days, then water in
*When repotting cacti & succulents, choose a new pot only one size larger than the original. Follow the instructions above, carefully discarding any surface dressing from the plant before removing it from the old pot and placing into the new one

In the garden:

Cacti and succulents require a gravelly soil to thrive - create this environment by mounding up Cacti & Succulent Mix above the normal soil level and plant into the top of the mound
Elongated mounds can be built for massed plantings along borders or in garden beds

NOT SUITABLE FOR

Don't use in hydroponic growing systems
Don't use on lawns - use only specifically named lawn top dress soils on grassed areas.
